The Union Ministry of Law and Justice recently notified that Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy had been transferred from the Telangana High Court to the Patna High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended that Justice Reddy be transferred on November 16, 2022.
Notably, the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association (THCAA) decided to boycott work the next day in protest against the proposed transfer of Justice Reddy.
Following that, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud agreed to meet with a delegation representing the THCAA. After the meeting, the THCAA decided to end its strike and return to work after the CJI assured them that their representation against Justice Reddy’s transfer would be considered.
Justice Reddy was born on November 7, 1967,. He became a lawyer in July 1990 and was appointed to the bench on August 26, 2019.
As of April 1, 2023, the Patna High Court is working with 33 judges against a sanctioned strength of 53, with 20 vacancies.
