CENTRE TO SUPREME COURT AMID ROW:‘WILL SEND OF 44 UDGES’ NAMES IN 3 DAYS.

The Centre assured Supreme Court that it will follow the timeline for clearing of pending names for the appointment of Judges In Supreme Court The Forty-four judges will be cleared for appointment to the higher judiciary in three days, the government informed the Supreme Court after it was being asked to “follow the law of the land” and for not delaying of the process further. The court while hearing a plea on delay in the appointment of judges, it has been asked by the Supreme Court that the government to clear the pending names as early as possible. The counsel, Attorney General R Venkataramani assured the Supreme Court that it will follow the timeline and said that out of the 104 recommendations made by the collegium of high courts, which are being pending with the government, 44 Judges names are likely to be processed and will be sent to the Supreme Court by this weekend. The bench comprising of Justice SK Kaul and Justice AS Oka observed and has asked Mr Venkataramani about five names recommended by the collegium for elevation as judges of the Supreme Court, the government’s top legal officer stated that there being “a difference of opinion”. Last month, the Supreme Court collegium – a body of judges headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud recommended five judges, including Justices Pankaj Mithal and Sanjay Karol, the chief justices of high courts of Patna and Rajasthan, for the elevation as judges of the Supreme Court. Last Month, the court while hearing of the case had stated that the collegium system of appointment of judges being the law of the land and comments against it are “not well taken”. On Friday, the Supreme Court stated that “every system will be having its own flaws” but will be following the prevailing. “If you want to bring of a new system, it is legislative who will be doing it. The Supreme Court in an April 2021 order stated that the centre should appoint judges within three-four weeks if the collegium reiterates its recommendations unanimously.
