Complaint Filed Against Actor Prakash Raj For Mocking ‘Chandrayaan-3’

A complaint has been registered against actor Prakash Raj at Karnataka’s Bagalkot police station on Tuesday in relation to a social media post in which he is alleged to have mocked India’s ambitious third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3.

Police stated, “A complaint has been filed against actor Prakash Raj for his post on the Chandrayaan-3 mission.”

They added, “Hindu organisations leaders filed a complaint against the actor in Banahatti police station of Bagalkote district and have demanded action.”

Previously, on Sunday, the esteemed actor resorted to the microblogging site X, where he shared a caricature of a man in a shirt and lungi while pouring tea.

Sharing the picture, he wrote, “First view just arrived from Chandrayaan #VikramLander #justasking.”

Prakash Raj has faced considerable backlash, with individuals contending that the Chandrayaan-3 mission is linked to the pride of the nation.

Faced with social media outrage Prakash Raj clarified on X that his comments were only intended as a joke. He posted that, “Hate sees only Hate…I was referring to a joke of #Armstrong times celebrating our kerala Chaiwala-which Chaiwala did the Trolls see? if you dont get a joke then the joke is on you. GROW UP #justasking.”

According to statements by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Chandrayaan-3 is slated to achieve landing on August 23, at approximately 18:04 hours IST.

Live coverage of this significant event will be accessible through the ISRO website, its YouTube channel, Facebook, and the public broadcaster DD National TV, commencing from 17:27 IST on August 23, 2023.

India will join the ranks of the US, Russia, and China as the 4th country globally to accomplish this feat. Importantly, India will stand as the sole nation to achieve a successful landing on the lunar south pole.

The primary goals of the Chandrayaan-3 mission are threefold to demonstrate a secure and gentle landing on the lunar surface, to showcase rover mobility on the moon and to execute in-site scientific investigations.

Chandrayaan-3’s development phase commenced in January 2020, with an initial launch slated for 2021. However, Covid-19 pandemic introduced an unforeseen delay to the mission’s progression.

Chandrayaan-3 was ultimately launched on July 14, 2023, through the GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at precisely 2:35 PM.
