Senior Congress leader and spokesperson Pawan Khera on Thursday has approached the Supreme Court immediately after he was arrested by the Assam Police from the Delhi airport.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared for Khera, mentioned the matter before Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud seeking urgent hearing on his plea. “He made some statement which he could have avoided making. He was whisked away by police. We are seeking consolidation of first information reports (FIRs) since several are being registered across the country,” Singhvi said.
The CJI asked “Who is Mr Pawan Khera? Singhvi replied “Spokesperson of Congress party. He also makes statements etc for the party
Then CJI said “Please mention at 3 pm.”
In a press conference which is recently held, Khera had botched up PM Narendra Modi’s name while demanding a joint parliamentary probe into the Adani-Hindenburg row.
He further said that “If Narasimha Rao could form a JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee), if Atal Bihari Vajpayee could form a JPC, then what problem does Narendra Gautam Das…sorry Damodardas…Modi have?”
After his statement, BJP has alleged Khera deliberately flubbed the name.
Khera was picked up from the Delhi airport, today after he had boarded a plane to Chhattisgarh’s Raipur where he was headed for a meeting of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC).
He was deplaned and then taken by the Assam Police based on a first information report registered against him.
