Consumer Court Fines Boutique Owner Rs 15,000 For Failing To Deliver Blouse

Consumer Court

A consumer court in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district has fined a local boutique owner Rs 15,000 for failing to deliver one of the two blouses ordered by a customer last year.

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission also ordered the boutique owner to provide the second blouse free of charge to the complainant within 15 days of the order.

The order was issued on July 15 by the forum’s president, Kishor Wadne, and member Vaishali Borade. According to the case details, Swati Kasture placed an order for 2 blouses at Maitrin Boutique in Dharashiv on January 13, 2023. She paid an advance of Rs 3,000 out of the total bill of Rs 6,300.

The blouses were supposed to be ready by January 25, 2023, but only one was delivered on that date. The boutique owner promised to deliver the second blouse by February 1, 2023. Despite Kasture’s continuous follow-up via phone and social media, boutique owner Neha Sant didn’t deliver the 2nd blouse or provide satisfactory explanations for the delay.

Kasture sent a legal notice through an advocate on April 28, 2023, but the boutique owner refused to accept it. Subsequently, Kasture filed a complaint with the district consumer commission. The boutique owner did not attend the hearing.

The commission then ordered Sant to pay Rs 15,000 for mental and physical harassment and legal expenses. Additionally, the boutique was directed to stitch and deliver the second blouse as originally ordered by the complainant within 15 days of the issuance of the order.
