A special court in Aizawl has sentenced a 45-year-old man to five years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh in a corruption case involving Rs 268 lakh.
Mustaqur Rahman, the co-accused in the corruption case related to the misappropriation of Rs 268 lakh in a public sector firm, has also been fined Rs 20 lakh by the special court.
Prevention of Corruption Act, has handed down a 5-year prison sentence to Rahman who was involved in a corruption case under sections 403/420/468/471 read with 120B of the IPC under section 13 (1) (d)/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 read with 120B IPC.
Last week, special judge HTC Lalrinchhana found Rahman guilty of misappropriation of funds, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.
Rahman, is originally from Guwahati, had exploited his position as a consultant at the government-owned Mizoram Agriculture Marketing Corporation.
He was apprehended in 2015 along with his co-accused Lalremthanga, the former managing director of MAMCO, for their involvement in the embezzlement of Rs 268 lakh.
In November of the previous year, the same court convicted Lalremthanga, sentencing him to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
