Corruption Case: Punjab And Haryana HC Dismisses Anticipatory Bail Plea Of IAS Vijay Dahiya

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of IAS officer Vijay Dahiya, facing arrest in a corruption case.

A single bench of Justice GS Gill was hearing the anticipatory bail plea filed by Vijay Dahiya, a 2001 Haryana cadre officer who previously served as the commissioner of the Haryana Skill Development Department in Panchkula.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had booked him on April 20 following the arrest of a woman.

The allegations state that the woman, known to Dahiya, played a role in facilitating the clearance of certain bills in exchange for money. Alongside the woman, a private individual, the ACB had filed an FIR against Dahiya and another official under various provisions of the law, including the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Earlier, a Panchkula court had rejected Dahiya’s anticipatory bail plea in the matter on May 3 after which he approached the High Court.

The complainant, a resident of Fatehabad, alleged that he operated an educational institution where he provided computer training and AC mechanics classes. He claimed that the Haryana Skill Development Department owed him pending bills worth Rs 50 lakh for his services. Additionally, another co-accused in the case demanded Rs 5 lakh from the complainant to clear the pending bills. This co-accused instructed the complainant to meet a woman who was known to Dahiya. Subsequently, the complainant approached the ACB, leading to the arrest of the woman while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh. Dahiya, on the other hand, contended that he was falsely implicated in the case due to “motivated considerations.”

He further asserted that there was no demand or acceptance of a bribe on his part in the case. The petitioner argued that he was implicated solely based on his acquaintance with the accused woman, and the prosecution attempted to fabricate a narrative implicating him as an accused in the case.
