Defamation Case Against Rahul Gandhi: Hearing Set for May 27th

There’s a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly making defamatory remarks about the honorable Home Minister Amit Shah, dating back to 2018. A hearing is scheduled for May 27th.

Facts of the Case

The defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi by BJP leader Vijay Mishra six years ago. The case stems from alleged objectionable remarks made by Gandhi targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Karnataka elections in May 2018. Last December, a warrant was issued against Rahul Gandhi, prompting him to suspend his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi and appear in court on February 20th, where he was granted bail. The complaint specifically mentions Gandhi’s comment accusing the BJP of having a party president who is an “accused” in a murder case, in reference to Amit Shah.

Updates on the Case

The plaintiff’s advocate, Santosh Pandey, announced that the matter would be heard on May 27th. Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, stated that the case couldn’t proceed during the day due to the non-appointment of a judge for the MP/MLA court. The previous judge was transferred a month ago, and a replacement hasn’t been appointed.
