An MP-MLA court in Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh) has scheduled a hearing for June 7 in the 2018 defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his alleged objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The defamation complaint against the Congress leader was lodged by BJP leader Vijay Mishra.
Gandhi’s attorney Kashi Prasad Shukla submitted an application in the court, stating that the Congress leader was occupied with campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls and required time to appear before the court.
Allegations of Evading Court
A single bench of Judge Shubham Verma set June 7 as the subsequent date of hearing. Plaintiff’s counsel Santosh Kumar Pandey informed the court that the Congress leader is evading the court.
The court had issued a warrant against Gandhi in December, 2023.
Previous Court Proceedings
Subsequently, Gandhi suspended his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi on February 20 and appeared in court, where he was granted bail.
The complaint was filed on August 4, 2018, against the Congress chief for his alleged objectionable comments against Shah at a press conference in Bengaluru.
