Defamation Case: Goa Court Restrains AAP MP Sanjay Singh From Commenting On Goa CM’s Wife

Defamation Case

A local court in Goa has passed an interim order restraining AAP leader Sanjay Singh from making any statements either publicly or on social media against Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, until her defamation suit is decided.

Sulakshana Sawant had filed a special civil suit in 2024, accusing Singh of defaming her during a press conference where he alleged her involvement in a “cash-for-jobs scam” in Goa. In her plea, she sought an injunction to stop further defamatory remarks and demanded ₹100 crore in damages. She also requested that Singh be restrained from circulating videos or transcripts of the press conference online.

Court’s Interim Order

Ad hoc Civil Judge Senior Division and JMFC Anuradha Andrade granted interim relief to the plaintiff. In her order, she directed:

“The defendant himself or through his associates, representatives, supporters, agents or any other person acting through him are restrained from making public statements maligning the image of the plaintiff… on social media or other platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, [and] Twitter” until the case is decided on merits.

Allegations Of Job Scam

The controversy stems from an alleged recruitment scam in Goa, which police say involved more than 34 FIRs and several arrests. Hundreds of job seekers were reportedly duped into paying large sums with the promise of government jobs, allegedly facilitated by those with political connections.

In December 2024, Singh alleged that CM Pramod Sawant, his wife Sulakshana, and other BJP legislators were linked to the scam, claiming to possess audio files as proof.

Sawant’s Response

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant rejected Singh’s accusations outright, calling them “baseless.” He also threatened legal action at the time, which ultimately led to the ongoing defamation case against the AAP leader.
