Defamation Case: Sultanpur Court Orders Personal Appearance of Rahul Gandhi on July 2

An MP-MLA court in Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh) has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on July 2 in a defamation case.

The case has been filed against him by BJP Leader Vijay Mishra for purportedly objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Santosh Kumar Pandey, the complainant’s lawyer, stated that Ram Pratap had requested to be joined as a party in the case.

Pandey opposed the plea, asserting that Pratap neither qualifies as a victim nor has any relevance to the issue at hand.

Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla, present in court, also opposed the petitioner’s request. Nevertheless, the court denied the plea and summoned Gandhi to appear personally on the next hearing date.

In 2018, a defamation case was initiated against Rahul Gandhi for alleged objectionable remarks about Shah. BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed the complaint against Gandhi. Earlier this year, Gandhi paused his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” in Amethi on February 20 and attended court, where he was granted bail.
