Naresh Balyan
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday permitted former Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan, currently in judicial custody in a MCOCA case, to have an E-Mulakat and a 5-minute telephonic conversation with his family once a week from Mandoli Jail.
Balyan is facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999, in connection with an organised crime syndicate allegedly run by gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.
Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh allowed Balyan’s application for regular contact with his family through video conferencing and telephone. “The court has permitted Balyan to have an E-Mulakat and a Telephonic conversation once a week each,” his counsel told media.
Applications filed by 3 other accused in the same case for similar facilities were also approved.
The court also granted permission to Delhi Police to interrogate accused Vikas Gehlot in judicial custody. Police stated that the investigating officer in the case has changed, and new findings from the Forensic Science Laboratory need to be verified.
The court granted bail to co-accused Veenita after she appeared in response to summons issued on a supplementary charge sheet filed by Delhi Police on July 15. She was not arrested earlier.
Police claim that, on instructions from her husband Vikas Gehlot, Veenita transported firearms and ammunition from their residence to a relative’s house on April 17, 2025. The weapons were recovered the same day and a seizure memo was prepared.
The court noted that ballistics expert opinion and sanction under Section 39 of the Arms Act are on record.
After taking cognizance of the offence under Section 25 of the Arms Act, 1959, the court issued summons to Veenita, instructing it to be served through the investigating officer.
The main offence under Sections 3 and 4 of MCOCA was taken cognizance of on February 24, 2025. Delhi Police has since filed a supplementary charge sheet against Balyan. His bail plea is currently pending before the Delhi High Court, after being rejected by the Rouse Avenue Court on May 27.
Naresh Balyan has been in custody since December 4, 2024.
