Delhi Court Directs Medical Evaluation for K Kavitha at AIIMS
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court directed the jail authorities to take BRS leader K Kavitha to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for diagnosis within two days. The court has also requested a report from the Jail Superintendent and the concerned doctor.
On July 17, K Kavitha was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a check-up after fainting in Tihar Jail during a family meeting. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja issued the directive based on an application filed on behalf of K Kavitha.
The court has also asked for a report from the jail authorities regarding the poor condition of the medical apparatus within two days. Meanwhile, K Kavitha’s judicial custody has been extended until July 22. She was produced via video conferencing from Tihar Jail.
K Kavitha informed the court that the health monitoring apparatus was malfunctioning, resulting in discrepancies in the results. An application for treatment at a private hospital was submitted on her behalf, and her medical examination at the hospital addressed health issues including high fever and cold.
Advocate Nitesh Rana requested that K Kavitha be taken to a private hospital and that a family member be allowed to be present. He also suggested a private hospital check-up due to her health issues.
During the hearing, Advocate Zoheb Hossain, special counsel for the ED, proposed that K Kavitha be referred to AIIMS for a medical check-up. K Kavitha agreed to this suggestion.
The BRS leader was arrested by the CBI on April 11 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case. Prior to this, she was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15.
On July 12, the Rouse Avenue court deferred the hearing on K Kavitha’s plea seeking default bail in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The CBI filed a charge sheet against her on June 6, which is pending cognizance.
