Delhi Court Remands CM Arvind Kejriwal to Judicial Custody till July 12

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday remanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody until July 12 in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced Kejriwal before the trial court following the expiration of his three-day custodial interrogation.

The central probe agency requested 14 days of incarceration for the AAP chief, stating that his detention was necessary ‘in the interest of the investigation and justice.’

Granting the request, Special Judge Sunena Sharma ordered that Kejriwal be produced in court on July 12. Three days earlier, Kejriwal had been arrested by the CBI in the liquor policy case. Initially, he was apprehended on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for his alleged role in a conspiracy to exploit loopholes in the policy to benefit certain liquor vendors. It is alleged that kickbacks from this scheme were used by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for their electoral activities in Goa.
