A Delhi Court has sentenced a man to 20 years of imprisonment for sexual assaulting a minor boy.
Special Judge (POCSO) Preeti Pareva granted a compensation of Rs 20 Lakh for the rehabilitation of the victim, who is now a college-going boy.
Additionally, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 52,000 under sections 6 and 12 of the POCSO and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused individual was also found guilty in accordance with Information and Technology (IT) Act Section 66 E, which punishes privacy violations.
While sentencing the convict, the judge stated: “The goal of the criminal justice system is not only to achieve catharsis by punishing the offender proportionately, but also to rehabilitate the victim-who is permanently damaged physically and psychologically. “If we fail to do so, we are indicating our duty towards the victim, whose psychological well-being has been denied and may have longer repercussions.”
On February 11, 2021, the victim’s father filed an FIR at the Rajouri Police Station, alleging that the convict sodomized his son and took pictures of him without his consent.
