Delhi Court Takes Cognizance of Supplementary Charges Against BRS Leader Kavitha

K Kavitha

The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday has acknowledged the supplementary chargesheet filed by the CBI against BRS leader K Kavitha in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, after recognizing the supplementary chargesheet, instructed the police to produce Kavitha before the court via video conferencing on July 26 at 2 PM.

Additionally, the court extended the judicial custody of Manish Sisodia and other accused individuals until July 26. The court ordered that a copy of the supplementary chargesheet be provided to the counsel for Kavitha and others. The case is set for document scrutiny on the next hearing date.

On July 8, the court reserved its order on the cognizance of the chargesheet, which is the third supplementary chargesheet in this case. Advocate D.P. Singh noted that cognizance of the offense had already been taken and highlighted the influence of the South Group, stating that all key members worked under Kavitha’s command. Singh read statements from TDP MP Magunta S Reddy, who met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 16, 2021, and his son Raghav Magunta, who confirmed the meeting.

Singh also mentioned other statements relied upon, including those of Sarath Reddy, Gopi Kumaran, and Raghav Magunta, asserting that many individuals would ultimately testify against Kavitha. He emphasized that the chargesheet serves the limited purpose of consideration and summoning of Kavitha as an accused.

The CBI filed the third supplementary chargesheet against Kavitha on June 6 in the Delhi Excise Policy case. Kavitha is currently in judicial custody for both CBI and ED cases. She was first arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15 and subsequently by the CBI on April 11.

The hearing on Kavitha’s default bail plea has been postponed to August 5.
