Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition in a sessions court challenging the summons issued to him by a lower court on two complaints lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for evading its summons in a money laundering case related to an alleged excise scam.
Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal is expected to hear Kejriwal’s applications later today.
Kejriwal has approached the sessions court against rulings made by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Divya Malhotra, who has directed Kejriwal to appear before the court on March 16.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had lodged two complaints before the magisterial court seeking the prosecution of Kejriwal for repeatedly ignoring summons issued to him in the case.
The most recent complaint relates to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor’s failure to comply with summons numbered four to eight sent by the federal probe agency under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED stated.
Previously, the ED had approached the magisterial court seeking Kejriwal’s prosecution for not attending the initial three summons issued to him in the money laundering case linked to the now-annulled Delhi excise policy.
The court of ACMM Malhotra has scheduled the matter concerning summons numbered one to three for a hearing on March 16 alongside the other complaint.
According to the ED, Kejriwal has ignored eight summons issued by the agency to date.
