Delhi Excise Policy: Court Releases Sanjay Singh with Stringent Conditions

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on Wednesday accepted the bail bond for AAP Leader Sanjay Singh, imposing specific conditions. Among these, he must provide his itinerary via email and keep his Google location activated when outside Delhi, NCR. The AAP Leader was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Special CBI Judge Kaveri Baweja directed the submission of a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh and a surety bond of the same amount. His wife, Anita Singh, provided the surety bond.

Initially, the court considered a condition restricting Singh from leaving the Delhi NCR region. However, upon hearing submissions from advocate Rajat Bhardwaj, counsel for Sanjay Singh, the court instructed Singh to share his itinerary and location with the investigating officer.

Advocate Bhardwaj argued that Singh, being an MP and political figure, would face challenges in seeking court permission during election times due to last-minute campaign schedules. Bhardwaj also asserted that Singh, as an MP, poses no flight risk.

In response, advocate Zoheb Hossain, Special Counsel for ED, mentioned a Supreme Court directive prohibiting Singh from speaking to the media about his involvement in the case. Singh’s counsel assured compliance with this directive.

The court mandated Singh to share his itinerary and location with the IO before leaving Delhi, NCR. Additionally, conditions included surrendering his passport, refraining from leaving the country, providing his mobile number to the IO, and cooperating in the investigation.

Sanjay Singh was arrested by the ED in October last year in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia are also in judicial custody in this case, until April 15.
