Delhi Excise Scam: CBI alleges Manish Sisodia as “kingpin of conspiracy”

Former Deputy Manish Sisodia

The CBI has recently said that the Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is under judicial custody in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy scam, is the “kingpin and architect of the conspiracy”. CBI has also argued that the Aam Aadi Party leaders are making false claims to influence the probe.
Sisodia had requested bail in the Delhi High Court, against which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the Delhi High Court that the matter involves a “deep-rooted, multi-layered conspiracy”.
The CBI also stated that Sisodia is a critical link in determining the mode of operation. The AAP leader is accused of being the “kingpin and architect of the conspiracy” by the central investigating agency.
The CBI claimed in its reply to the high court that Sisodia’s party colleagues and AAP leaders in high positions continued to make false claims in order to influence the investigation.
The CBI claims that Sisodia has been uncooperative and evasive throughout the investigation in an attempt to derail it.
The CBI has also claimed that Sisodia enjoys a close nexus with executives, offices, and bureaucrats, and his influence and clout are evident.
The central investigation agency has claimed that Sisodia’s high-ranking party colleagues continue to make false claims in order to influence the investigation. It also called the party’s claim that Sisodia is the victim of a political vendetta a “false claim.”
“A perusal of the said statements by these leaders during the press conferences would reveal how the entire efforts of not only the applicant but also his party colleagues as a whole are to shield the accused herein,” the CBI said.
The central probe agency has alleged that Sisodia made changes in the excise policy with malafide intention. He did not consider the recommendations by an expert committee headed by then Excise Commissioner Ravi Dhawan or the opinions received from legal experts, as those did not favor the South Group.
