The Supreme Court has denied to give any relief to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K. Kviata. But Suprem Court has given Permission has been given to withdraw the petition challenging the summons of Enforcement Directorate (ED) in. Excise policy matter. A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal dismissed the petition as withdrawn, giving liberty to Kavita to pursue appropriate legal remedies.
During the hearing, senior advocate Vikram Chaudhary, representing Kavita, said that due to recent developments the petition has become irrelevant. Chaudhary commented, “Since I have been arrested, I will address all my concerns in a new case.”
Justice Trivedi clarified, “So, you are not pressing this petition?”

Previosly the case was earlier adjourned to March 15, as related matters raising the question of whether a woman can be summoned by the Enforcement Directorate were not listed. Notably, during the hearing, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED, sought to withdraw a statement given in September 2023 regarding deferring the summons to the BRS leader by 10 days. However, the Court did not pay much attention to the matter and posted it for a later date.
On March 15, news of Kavita’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate emerged. According to the arrest memo, he was detained from his residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad at 5:20 pm.
On 16 March, a Delhi court sent Kavita to ED custody till 23 March. Kavita appeared before the court and protested against the legality of her arrest and expressed her intention to challenge it in court.
In short, the central agency is investigating Kavita’s involvement in influencing the now defunct liquor policy in Delhi and related bribery allegations. Last March, his writ petition was filed against senior lawyer and former finance minister P. Saradha in the 2018 chitfund scam case.
Kavita has filed a separate writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging her arrest by the ED.
