Solicitor General Tushar Mehta Appearing for the Central Government on Thursday, Justify the control of the centre said in the pre-constitutional era and the post-constitutional era, attempts have been made to give a distinct status to the capital of the country and to maintain the control of the centre in all legislative and executive functions.

Tushar Mehta said that this is in line with all the capitals of all the country of the world as the capital of any country needs to maintain a special status. The SC constitution bench was hearing matter of right to transfer posting of officers between the Delhi Government and the Lieutenant Governor.

The capital is the seat of power where the central government sits, SG said. He further argued that representatives of all other countries have their embassies, commissions, consulates. World leaders do visit the capital of the country and it is the capital of any nation, which becomes the face of the country in front of the world. He added that

The hearing before the constitution bench of the Supreme Court will continue on next Tuesday i.e., January 17 as well.
