Delhi High Court: Asks Centre About Current Status Of Investigation Against Disha Ravi; Toolkit Case

The Delhi High Court in the case observed and has directed the Union Of India for filing response on the current position and status of investigation against climate activist Disha Ravi which relates to the case made against her in connection with the “toolkit” over the 2021 farmers protests.
The bench headed by Justice Justice Prathiba M Singh was hearing the plea filed by Ravi wherein seeking to restrain Delhi police from leaking to the media any investigation material regarding the matter.
Therefore, let the Union of India to file an affidavit as to the status of investigation and for the current position. An affidavit has to be filed before the court at least two weeks before the next date of hearing. The counsel, Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal appearing for Ravi submitted before the court that the question which needs deliberation in the case as to whether the investigating agency has the power and the entitlement for identifying and collecting private data or investigation from a person who being under investigation.
It has also been submitted by Sibal that no chargesheet has yet been filed in the case and that Ravi being out on bail. In the said case, the bail ahs been granted to the Ravi by the session court in February 2021 after the court observed the scanty and sketchy evidence on record, there being no palpable reason to deny bail.
It has been stated by Ravi before the court that her WhatsApp chats, which being private in nature, as well as the alleged admissions and the disclosure which is made during her time in police custody were leaked in public domain. It being the case of her that such disclosure is false, malicious and the same being in violation of her right to privacy and free trial.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter to be next heard on September 4.
