Delhi Jal Board Vandalism Case: Court Orders Supply Of Charge Sheets To Raghav Chadha

The Rouse Avenue Court has ordered that a copy of the charge sheet and supplementary charge sheet be provided to AAP MP Raghav Chadha, in response to his plea for monitoring the investigation into the 2020 Delhi Jal Board office vandalism case.

Court’s Directive

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Paras Dalal stated that the court would ensure Chadha received copies of the charge sheets, acknowledging his application. The matter is now scheduled for hearing on April 7.

The case stems from a complaint filed by Chadha in 2020, after which he sought court-monitored supervision of the probe. The accused in the case include BJP MP Yogender Chandolia, BJP leader Adesh Gupta, and others.

Legal Developments & Charges

Given that Yogender Chandolia is a sitting MP, the case has been recently transferred to the Special MP/MLA Court. Adesh Gupta appeared in person, while Chandolia attended the hearing via video conferencing.

Advocate Prashant Manchanda, representing Chadha, sought an exemption from physical appearance for his client, citing his engagement in a parliament session.

Previously, the Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and special laws, including- IPC Sections 188 (Disobedience to order by public servant), 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection), 147, 148, 149 (related to rioting and unlawful assembly), 427 (Mischief causing damage).

Prevention Of Damage To Public Property Act – Section 3.

Pandemic Act – Section 3.

The court had already taken cognizance of the charge sheet and supplementary charge sheet on April 29, 2023.

With the next hearing set for April 7, the case continues to unfold under judicial scrutiny.
