MCOCA
The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), alleging his involvement in an extortion racket linked to gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu.
Balyan, who represented the Uttam Nagar constituency from 2015 to 2025, was arrested on December 4, 2024. The chargesheet accuses him of facilitating extortion demands made by Sangwan to businessmen, asserting that Balyan acted as a conduit between the gangster and his targets. Sangwan is believed to be operating from abroad.
The court has scheduled a hearing for May 5, 2025, to consider the chargesheet. Previously, the court extended Balyan’s judicial custody, along with six other accused individuals, until April 23, 2025. All accused were produced via video conferencing during the proceedings.
The case is part of a broader investigation into an organized crime syndicate allegedly run by Sangwan. The Delhi Police has filed supplementary chargesheets against other co-accused, including Ritik alias Peter, Rohit alias Anna, and Sachin Chikara. The court has taken cognizance of these chargesheets and is proceeding with further legal actions.
Balyan’s legal team has contested the charges, arguing that there is no substantial evidence linking him to the alleged crimes. However, the prosecution maintains that there is sufficient material to proceed under MCOCA provisions.
