A Mumbai special court has recently denied interim medical bail to Dheeraj Wadhawan, a promoter of Dewan Housing Finance Ltd, and accused of multi-crore bank loan scam case.
Wadhawan is allowed to receive treatment at a private hospital for a heart ailment but is instructed not to unnecessarily extend his stay, while bearing the cost of prison staff escorting him.
Special Judge MG Deshpande rejected Wadhawan’s medical bail plea but allowed him to undergo treatment at a private hospital for a heart-related ailment.
The court has directed the CBI to assign an official to monitor Wadhawan during his hospitalization.
The Special Public Prosecutor opposed any relief for Wadhawan, citing the previous misuse of liberty.
Wadhawan, along with other individuals including Rana Kapoor and Kapil Wadhawan, is accused of involvement in a financial fraud scheme between Yes Bank and DHFL. The CBI alleges kickbacks were paid to former Yes Bank CEO Rana Kapoor and his family members.
The Wadhawan brothers are currently in custody, facing prosecution by both the CBI and the ED for their role in the Yes Bank-DHFL scam.
