The Gujarat High Court has recently ordered the Surat Police to initiate a probe against a doctor who allegedly issued bogus medical certificates to jail inmates for enabling them to secure bail.
Single-judge Justice MK Thakker heard a bail application filed by Dilip Gauda, who relied on a medical certificate issued to him by Dreamz Multi Specialty Hospital and signed by Dr. ML Patel.
The Court then noted on May 22 that a trial court also made certain observations against the medical certificates issued by Dr. Patel, who claimed to be an MBBS degree holder.
The Court in its order noted that, “The degree mentioned in the certificate as MBBS and MRSM i.e. Member of the Royal Society of Medicine, which belongs to the United Kingdom. It is further observed by the trial Court that MRSM is not a degree and the doctor must be having a membership in that institution. Though the degree mentioned by the doctor as MBBS, he issued the certificate advising for surgery, which an MBBS degree holder cannot perform.”
Further, the Court noted that the trial court in its order stated that the doctor was in the habit of issuing the medical certificates in the name of different hospitals i.e., Aarzoo, Shri Hari, and Dreamz to aid the prisoners for filing bail applications.
The judge noticed that various locations are stated in different certificates and that the doctor had a criminal history of rape, fraud, as well as forgery, and even offenses under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The single-judge ordered that “Prima-facie, it transpires that the said doctor namely (ML Patel) is issuing such bogus certificates in the name of different hospitals with different addresses. Let the certificate issued by Dr Patel be verified and examined by the concerned Investigating Officer, so that, correct and true facts surface on record.”
The Court will hear the matter next on June 8.
