A local court in Bareilly has recently sentenced Darshan Singh (29) and his mother Kamlesh Devi (63) to life imprisonment for the murder of Singh’s wife, Priyanka alias Pinky, in a dowry-related case.
The Additional District Sessions Court judge, Abhay Srivastava, also imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on each of the accused.
The case was brought to court after Priyanka’s father, Pramod Kumar, lodged a complaint in 2021, alleging that his daughter had been harassed by her husband and mother-in-law over demands for a refrigerator and ₹2 lakhs. When these demands were not met, they killed her on February 6, 2021.
The post-mortem report revealed rope marks on the victim’s neck, and the prosecution presented seven witnesses in the case. After reviewing the evidence, the court delivered the life sentences.
