Dwarka Judge Receives Death Threat While On Walk, Delhi Police Registers FIR

An FIR has been filed against unidentified persons who had given death threats to a Dwarka court judge in the national capital while he was on a walk, Delhi police said on Friday

According to the FIR, the judge was walking towards a nearby public school around 6 p.m. when a Wagon R car stopped about 10 metres behind him and honked four to five times. When the judge turned around, one of the two men in the car allegedly shouted, “Tu bach kar reh le. Hum goli maar diya karen. Kam bola kar agar jeena chahta hai toh” (Beware. We shoot people. Speak less if you want to live).

The car then sped off in a zig-zag manner before making a sharp turn. The judge noted he could not read the car’s number plate due to its quick getaway.

Delhi Police are investigating the incident and are currently analysing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects.

Woman Judge Threatened

In a separate and equally shocking incident, a retired government school teacher and his lawyer allegedly hurled abuses and issued threats to a woman judge inside a courtroom in Delhi. This occurred on April 2 after the teacher was convicted in a six-year-old cheque bounce case.

Reportedly, the retired teacher confronted Judge Shivangi Mangla and said, “Tu hai kya cheez… tu bahar mil, dekhte hai kaise zinda ghar jaati hai” (You are nothing… come outside, we’ll see how you return home alive).

The judge has since referred the matter to the National Commission for Women for further action.

Rising Concerns

These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns over the safety of judicial officers in the national capital. Legal bodies and judicial associations are expected to take up the matter with relevant authorities to ensure stronger security measures for judges both inside and outside court premises.
