Espionage Case: Mohali Court Remands Punjab YouTuber Jasbir Singh

A Mohali court on Monday remanded Punjab-based YouTuber Jasbir Singh—better known online as “Jaan Mahal”—to judicial custody after police completed his 2-day remand in a high-profile espionage investigation.

Arrest & Custodial Status

Singh was taken into custody by the Punjab Police on June 4, 2025, under charges of spying for Pakistan.

Following his arrest, the court granted the police a three-day remand, which was later extended by two additional days to allow further questioning.

On June 9, after remand completion, the court ordered Singh to be held in judicial custody. His lawyer, Mohit Dhupar, stated he will next appear before the court on June 23.

Allegations Of Espionage

Punjab Police allege that Singh was part of a “terror-backed espionage network” coordinated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to investigators, Singh:

Relayed Sensitive Information: He purportedly passed details about Indian Army movements and other internal activities to Pakistani contacts.

Ties to Influencers: He was in close touch with Haryana-based influencer Jyoti Malhotra, herself in custody on similar charges.

After Malhotra’s arrest, police claim Singh tried to erase communication records with Pakistani intelligence operatives.

Alleged Pakistani Connections

Police reports outline a series of contacts and trips:

Three Trips to Pakistan: Singh visited Pakistan in 2020, 2021, and 2024, during which he allegedly met with ISI officers who “cultivated and recruited” him for espionage work.

He is said to have met a Pakistan High Commission official expelled from New Delhi last month for spying, and connected with Pakistan Army personnel at events such as the Pakistan National Day celebration in Delhi.

Singh is accused of collaborating with a Pakistani Intelligence Operative named Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, part of the same terror-backed network.

Family’s Defense

Singh’s family insists on his innocence, asserting that he cooperated with investigators for over ten days before his formal arrest.

They claim the police acted despite his willingness to assist in the probe and that he was conducting legitimate travel and vlogging activities.

Represented by advocate Mohit Dhupar, Singh will return to court on June 23, 2025, when his custody status and any further remand requests will be reviewed.

Punjab Police continue to probe the full extent of the alleged espionage ring, gathering digital forensics from Singh’s channel “JaanMahal Video”, which boasts over 1.1 million subscribers for travel and cooking vlogs.

As the case unfolds, both sides prepare for a prolonged legal battle over the serious charges of national security breach and espionage.
