Fake Arms Licence Case: Varanasi Court Sentences Mukhtar Ansari to Life Imprisonment

A special MP/MLA Court in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) on Wednesday sentenced gangster turned politician Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment in a three-decade old fake arms licence case.

The order was passed by Judge Awanish Gautam of the special MP-MLA court, as confirmed by district government counsel Vinay Singh.

The case against Ansari, registered under IPC sections 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 120B (criminal conspiracy), along with provisions of the Arms Act, dates back to December 1990 at Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur district.

According to the government counsel, Ansari participated in the court proceedings via video conference from Banda Jail, where he is currently incarcerated.

Police officials report approximately 60 pending cases against Ansari in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, New Delhi, and other states, with at least seven convictions thus far.
