Farmers Protest: PIL Filed In Punjab & Haryana HC To Stop Farmers From Marching To Delhi

Another PIL has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday in connection to the ongoing farmers protest, seeking to restrain the protesting farmers from moving ahead to New Delhi.

A Panchkula based lawyer has filed the plea claiming that “Delhi Chalo” march by the farmers of Punjab is posing “grave danger to the life and liberty of common citizens in general, police personnel on duty and the farmers/agitators themselves who are part of the agitation.”

The petition reads, ‘Farmers Unions are adamant to move to Delhi but the government of Punjab is reluctant to take lawful action required to avoid the situation prevailing on the border adjoining Haryana.’

Furthermore, the petition stated that the agitators are in possession of modified heavy vehicles that are otherwise not permissible to be plied on roads as per Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

“Thus all such modified vehicles are liable to be impounded by the authorities of respective jurisdiction forthwith.”

Moreover, the plea seeks interim directions to restrain any agitation or blockade on National Highway No. 44 and to transfer the agitators stationed at Shambhu and Khanori borders of State of Punjab & Haryana to other designated places meant for agitation.
