Fast-Track Court To Conduct Trial Of Shilphata Gangrape-Murder Case

The trial for the gang rape and murder of a woman in the Shilphata area will be fast-tracked, with renowned lawyer Ujjwal Nikam appointed as the special prosecutor, directed Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Chief Minister has also instructed the police to submit a charge sheet to the court as soon as possible, according to a statement from his office.

Shinde directed the Thane police commissioner and the principal secretary of the home department to treat the case with the utmost seriousness and urgency.

3 men, who were attendants at a temple in the Shilphata area, have been arrested in connection with the case. The victim had left her home following a dispute with her in-laws on July 6 and sought refuge at the hilltop temple. There, she was allegedly raped and murdered by the three men. Her body was found in a valley on July 9, according to police reports.
