Ghatkopar Hoarding Case: Mumbai Court Grants Bail to Civil Contractor

A court in Mumbai has granted bail to a civil contractor arrested in connection with the May 13 Ghatkopar hoarding collapse incident, which resulted in 17 fatalities. Sagar Kumbhar, who was arrested in June from Goa, had his bail application approved by Sessions Judge V M Pathade.

According to the police, Kumbhar’s firm had hastily erected the hoarding in a faulty manner, neglecting proper standards and safety measures. The collapse of the massive iron hoarding onto a petrol pump during a dust storm led to the deaths of 17 people and injuries to 74 others.

Bhavesh Bhinde, director of Ego Media Private Limited, which owned the hoarding, is a prime accused in the case and is currently in judicial custody. The accused have been booked under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Previously, the court had granted bail to structural engineer Ramakrishna Sahu in connection with the case.
