A Gurugram court has sentenced a man from Bihar to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife in 2020.
Additional District and Session Judge Virender Prasad imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict, Dharmendra. In the event of non-payment of the fine, an additional six-month imprisonment will be applicable, the authorities stated.
The police filed an FIR related to this case on February 19, 2020, under the charge of murder at the Kherki Daula police station. Dharmendra, also known as Sunny Kumar, hailing from Bihar’s Nalanda district, was residing in a rented accommodation in Gurugram’s Nawada village with his wife Anupama, as per the police account.
On the morning of February 19, 2020, the police received information that a young man had fled after committing the murder of his wife in Nawada village. Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered a blood-stained heavy stone near the woman’s lifeless body.
Neighbors informed the police that the couple frequently engaged in altercations. Dharmendra harbored suspicions about his wife’s character, and an altercation had taken place between them on the night of February 18, 2020.
The couple had not been seen by neighbors for a considerable time on the morning of February 19, 2020. Upon opening the door to their house, Anupama was found deceased, and her husband was missing.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the accused had left a message on the room’s wall, stating that a life had to be sacrificed to safeguard the lives of numerous family members.
The police subsequently apprehended Dharmendra at his residence in Nalanda. The couple had three children, whom they had left in the village a month before the incident.
The police submitted the charge sheet in court, and a total of 18 witnesses testified during the trial. Based on the evidence and witness testimonies presented during the trial, the court found Dharmendra guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
