A Gurugram Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife in 2020.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Kuldeep. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional one-year punishment.
The police filed an FIR on September 22, 2020, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to dowry death. The forensic investigation report indicated that the woman was initially assaulted with a stick by her husband. Subsequently, water was poured into her mouth while she was unconscious, leading to her demise, as per police statements.
Originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Etah, Kuldeep had married Asha on November 16, 2016. They moved to Naharpur village in Manesar for work, residing in a rented accommodation. Asha’s brother, Olwin, also joined them and lived with the couple.
On September 21, 2020, Olwin left for work at 9 am. Later, he was informed that Asha had purportedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance, according to police statements. Kuldeep took her to a hospital and informed the police of a dispute between them, resulting in her alleged suicide.
However, Olwin filed a case of dowry death, leading to Kuldeep’s arrest. The postmortem report identified Asha’s cause of death as respiratory arrest and noted injury marks on her body.
