Gurugram Court Sentences Man to Life Term for Wife’s Murder

A Gurugram Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife by strangulation in 2019.

Additional Sessions Judge SK Diwan imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on the convict Rajesh.

The case originated from a report filed at Sector 50 Police Station in Gurugram on January 26, 2019, concerning an incident in Jal Vihar Colony, Sector 46.

The matter came to light when cab owner Dinesh notified the police that the body of his cab driver Rajesh’s wife, Babita, was discovered inside a bed in a room of his house. Rajesh was apprehended from Amritsar on February 2, 2019, and confessed during interrogation that he had wedded Babita despite her having five children from a previous marriage. However, frequent arguments erupted between the couple due to Babita’s incessant phone conversations.

On January 21, 2019, Rajesh took his wife to his cab owner’s house, where he strangled her to death, concealed the body in the bed, and fled the city.

Subsequently, the accused was remanded to judicial custody, and the police compiled a charge sheet, which was presented in court. Based on substantial evidence and witness testimonies, the court found Rajesh guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
