Guwahati Court Sends Zubeen Garg’s Co-Musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami & Co-Singer Amritprava Mahanta To 14 Days’ Police Custody

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Guwahati on Friday remanded Zubeen Garg’s co-musician, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer, Amritprava Mahanta, to 14 days of police custody.

Both were arrested on Thursday night by the Crime Investigation Department of the Assam Police in connection with the singer’s death.

With these arrests, the total number of people taken into custody in the case has risen to four.

Earlier Arrests Linked To The Case

The CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, along with Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma. Both were earlier sent to 14 days’ police custody by the CJM of Kamrup (Metro).

CID officials confirmed that after several days of questioning, fresh evidence emerged leading to the arrests of Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta.

“Following multiple days of interrogation by the SIT/CID, both were arrested last night,” said Munna Prasad Gupta, Chief of the SIT and Special DGP, CID.

Murder Charge Added

In a significant development, the CID has added murder charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act to the registered case, intensifying the legal proceedings. The addition of this section signals a shift in the investigation from accidental death to possible foul play.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force has submitted Zubeen Garg’s autopsy report to the High Commission of India, along with their preliminary findings. The report was shared at India’s request as part of the ongoing investigation.

Singapore authorities have also urged the public to refrain from circulating videos or images related to Garg’s death while police inquiries continue.

Family’s Stand On Investigation

Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, has publicly expressed her confidence in the probe. She said she has “full faith in the legal system” and appealed for patience.

She added that the investigation would eventually uncover the truth and ensure accountability for those responsible.
