Gyanvapi Case: Muslim Party Submits Views To UP Court

Lawyers for the Anjuman Intezamia Committee has recently presented their arguments in a fast-track court regarding a petition filed by the Hindu party.

This petition requests a survey of the remaining parts of the Gyanvapi complex by the Archaeological Survey of India. After hearing from the Muslim representatives, the court scheduled the next hearing for October 10.

Advocate Madan Mohan, representing the Hindu side, noted that the committee’s lawyers expressed their views before fast-track judge Yughul Shambhu. They argued that since the Hindu party has appealed to higher courts, including the high court and the Supreme Court, pursuing the matter in the trial court was unnecessary.

They also contended that a previous ASI survey of the Gyanvapi complex renders another survey unjustified.

Additionally, the committee’s lawyers pointed out that excavating on the mosque premises for the survey could cause damage and is not practical. Mohan mentioned that the Hindu party’s legal team would respond to the committee’s submissions on October 10.

Previously, the Hindu party claimed that the original site of the ‘Jyotirlinga’ lies at the center, beneath the dome of the contested mosque. They argued that water historically flowed from the ‘Argha’ into the Gyanvapi Kund, and drinking this water was believed to impart knowledge, making the site significant as a pilgrimage known as ‘Gyanoday Tirth.’

The Hindu party has requested that experts in water engineering, geology, and archaeology examine the water from this site.

Furthermore, they seek clarification on whether the ‘Shivling’ discovered in the Gyanoday Tirth—which the Muslim side refers to as the “wazukhana”—is indeed a ‘Shivling’ or merely a fountain.
