Gyanvapi Mosque Survey: Varanasi Court Grants ASI 10 Days Extension to Submit Report

Gyanvapi

The Varanasi district court on Saturday granted the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) an additional 10 days to submit its scientific survey report of the Gyanvapi mosque complex.

Originally, the ASI was given until November 17 for the submission, but on Friday, its counsel requested a 15-day extension, citing the non-availability of the technical report.

Madan Mohan Yadav, counsel for the Hindu side, stated that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) requested an extension due to the non-availability of the technical report.

During the hearing, District Judge A K Vishvesh directed the ASI to submit its report by November 28, 2023.

On November 2, the ASI informed the court that the survey had been “completed” but might require additional time to compile the report, including details of the equipment used in the survey work. Consequently, the court extended the deadline to November 17 for the document submission.

Earlier, on October 5, the court had granted a four-week extension to the ASI, specifying that the survey duration would not be prolonged beyond this period.
