A Varanasi court has ordered that the keys to the basement, known as “Vyas ji ka tehkhana,” situated in the Gyanvapi complex, to be handed over to the district magistrate (DM).
District Judge AK Vishwesh stated that proper care is necessary for the basement of Vyas ji, located at the southern end of the complex, as mentioned by Hindu side’s counsel Madan Mohan Yadav.
The court specified, “Therefore, the district magistrate of Varanasi is appointed receiver of Vyas ji’s basement.”
Yadav had previously indicated that authorities had barricaded and locked the basement in 1993. Before this action, the basement was reportedly utilized for worship by Somnath Vyas, a priest, as stated in Yadav’s plea.
