Hate Speech: Lawyer Files Complaint Against Former Congress Leader Aziz Qureshi

A complaint has been filed with the Delhi Police against Aziz Qureshi, former Governor and senior Congress leader, for his alleged hate speech during an event.

The complaint was filed by Vineet Jindal, a Supreme Court Advocate and Social Activist. The First Information Report (FIR) against Qureshi has been registered under sections U/S 153, 153A & B, 295, 298, and 505 (C) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the complaints, the 82-year-old Congress Leader, who has held positions such as Governor for Mizoram, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as a Madhya Pradesh minister and Lok Sabha MP, made controversial statements during an event in Madhya Pradesh.

“We will tolerate up to a certain extent. You burn our homes and markets. Burn their shops, dishonor their mothers, render children as orphans, wipe off the sindoor from the foreheads of married women, break the bangles from the hands of our sisters. We will endure within limits. However, when the line is crossed, Muslims won’t be adorned with bangles. Even if 1 or 2 crore out of 22 crore (population) perish, it won’t be an issue. Present-day Congress members speak out. It is indeed a matter of deep shame when it concerns the religious pilgrimages of Hindutva, praising Goddess Ganga, and venerating Goddess Narmada. It’s a matter of sinking and perishing,” the former leader stated.

He further emphasized that all political parties, including his own, should recognize that the community were not their slaves. He challenged them by questioning why Muslims should vote for them when there are limited employment opportunities in areas like the police, defense forces, and banks. He also raised concerns about the lack of guaranteed bank loans for the community.

“All parties, including the Congress, should understand that Muslims are not slaves or bonded labourers who will act as per their orders. Why should they vote for you when there are no jobs for them in the police, defence forces and banks? Why should they vote for you when they are not guaranteed bank loans?,” he added.

Qureshi went as far as expressing no regret for his remarks and even dared the party to expel him. “I have no fear. Remove me from the party. Today, Nehru’s heirs and Congress people take out religious processions, say ‘Jai Ganga Maiya’, and say proudly that they are Hindus. They install idols in the Congress office, it’s about drowning,” Qureshi remarked.

These comments gained more public attention when BJP spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi shared them on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
