Honeymoon Murder: Shillong Court Reserves Order On Bail Plea By Indore-Based Property Dealer

A court in Meghalaya’s Shillong on Thursday reserved its decision on a bail plea filed by Indore-based property dealer Shilome James, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi in Sohra.

A day prior, during a hearing, the bail application was argued by James’ counsel, Devesh Sharma. It was strongly opposed by public prosecutor Tushar Chanda, officials added. The court has reserved its order and is expected to deliver a verdict soon.

Key Evidence Recovered

Authorities revealed that several items belonging to Sonam, the wife of the deceased, including gold ornaments and a pistol, were recovered from the possession of Shilome James. Investigators also alleged that a rented flat managed by James in Indore was used by Sonam to hide after returning from Meghalaya following the murder.

Other Accused Out On Bail

Two others accused in the case — Lokendra Singh Tomar, the owner of the rented flat, and Balbir Ahirwar alias Balia, a security guard — were granted bail after their judicial custody period ended. Both men are alleged to have tampered with crucial evidence linked to the murder.

Murder During Honeymoon

The case dates back to May when Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam, a newlywed couple from Indore, traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Shortly after their arrival, both went missing. Raja’s blood-stained body was later discovered in a deep gorge in Sohra, raising suspicions of foul play.

Initially presumed missing, 24-year-old Sonam was later traced and arrested on June 9 from a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Following her arrest, four of her alleged accomplices were also apprehended from Indore. Police suspect a conspiracy involving multiple individuals to eliminate Raja.

Complex & Ongoing Investigation

The investigation has revealed several twists, with links traced back to Indore, where suspects allegedly planned and supported the murder. The recovery of stolen belongings and the use of a safe house have further strengthened the prosecution’s case.

As the Shillong court prepares to deliver its ruling on James’ bail plea, the case continues to unfold, with authorities piecing together the chilling sequence of events leading to the murder.
