Hunter Biden, son of Joe Biden, to plead guilty on three federal charges

According to a letter submitted in US District Court in Delaware, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has been charged with federal income tax evasion and unlawful possession of a firearm. The letter also revealed that Hunter Biden has reached an agreement with the Justice Department to resolve the charges. Under the agreement, which was made public on Tuesday, Hunter Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses.

Additionally, it is anticipated that he will come to a separate agreement with prosecutors regarding the felony charge of possessing a firearm while being a drug user. While it is somewhat uncommon to resolve a federal criminal case at the same time the charges are filed, it is not entirely unprecedented. The agreement brings an end to a lengthy investigation by the Justice Department into the president’s son, who has publicly acknowledged grappling with addiction following the passing of his brother Beau Biden in 2015.

Furthermore, the agreement prevents a trial that would have resulted in extensive media coverage, potentially creating distractions for the White House, which has been determined to maintain separation from the Justice Department. This development occurs at a time when Republican members of Congress are conducting their own investigations into various aspects of Hunter Biden’s business activities, including examining foreign payments and other financial matters. Additionally, it follows closely on the heels of a 37-count indictment against former President Donald Trump for mishandling classified documents at his Florida property, a separate case with significant political ramifications. Joe Biden himself has faced inquiries concerning his son’s business ventures and struggles with substance abuse.
