Hyderabad Consumer Court Awards Compensation for Cancelled Bus Ticket

Bus Tickets

A consumer court in Hyderabad has recently directed a bus service operator to pay ₹10,000 as compensation to an individual whose confirmed bus ticket was cancelled under the pretext of bus unavailability.

A coram of President Vakkanti Narasimha Rao and members PVTR Jawahar Babu and Madhavi Sasanakot, ordered Orange Tours to provide the stipulated compensation in addition to reimbursing the ticket cost of ₹55, along with applicable interest.

The complainant reserved an air-conditioned bus ticket on August 23, 2022, which was subsequently verified following the submission of payment to the bus service provider. However, the ticket was subsequently invalidated due to purported bus unavailability. The service provider assured the refund of the ticket payment. Consequently, the complainant had to make an alternate bus reservation.

The current grievance was filed after Legal Humans, a legal aid initiative engaged on social media platforms, took cognizance of a tweet containing the complaint. After examining the circumstances, the consumer forum delivered a verdict in favor of the complainant.
