The Delhi High Court recently dismissed a PIL filed against Adesh Gupta, alleging that the former BJP Delhi president was involved in illegal grabbing of government land and illegal constructions.
Following the order of the Delhi High Court, Adesh Gupta stated that a smear campaign was being run against him as part of a political conspiracy and that he would file a defamation case against those responsible.
In fact, Hemant Chowdhary accused the then-president of the Delhi BJP of illegal construction during the elections for the Delhi Municipal Corporation and later filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court against him. The Aam Aadmi Party started a campaign against Adesh Gupta as a result of these accusations.
Adesh Gupta claimed that after the Delhi High Court dismissed the PIL, the court’s ruling made it abundantly clear that the accusations made against him were made in an effort to harass him.
“Such false allegations were made at the behest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to stop my campaign against corruption. The spokespersons of the Aam Aadmi Party, including Arvind Kejriwal, held five press conferences against me in a single day. The AAP is known for making such false allegations. The party has made such false accusations against late Union Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Minister for roads and highways Nitin Gadkari and later, apologised for the same,” stated Gupta.
After the Aam Aadmi Party defeated the BJP in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) elections held last year, Adesh Gupta resigned from his position as president of the Delhi BJP. In the 250-ward MCD, the AAP won 134 seats while the BJP took 104, ending the saffron party’s 15-year reign over the civic body.
