January 11: Important Matter Listed In The Court For Hearing On Wednesday

Court at a Glance:

  • The Supreme Court will hear a bail plea by Ashish Mishra, accused of mowing down four farmers during an agitation in Lakhmipur Kheri last year. Mishra, the son of Union minister of state for home affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, approached the top court soon after the Allahabad high court on July 26 declined to release him on bail.

*The Supreme Court to continue hearing on the petition challenging the Constitutional validity of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021, which increased the powers of the Delhi Lieutenant Governor over the elected government.

*Supreme Court to continue hearing the matter regarding the political tussle between the two factions of the AIADMK.

Court will tomorrow hear the application filed by EPS seeking directions that the pending proceeding before the Supreme Court does not impede or restrain the Constitutional authorities from acting in accordance with the law.

*Supreme Court to continue hearing on the curative petition filed by the Centre for additional compensation for Bhopal gas tragedy victims from US-based Union Carbide Company which is now owned by Dow Chemicals).

  • Supreme Court to continue hearing on the bail pleas of Christian Michel James, the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland chopper scam case.

On the last date of hearing, the top court had sought response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the bail of 3600 crore deal alleged middlemen

*The Supreme Court will hear on a petition challenging the ban on the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for its involvement in terrorist incidents.  In 2015, the Modi government had tightened the action against the organization by extending the ban on SIMI indefinitely. 

SIMI is accused of being involved in many cases including Malegaon bomb blasts, Mumbai bomb blasts, Delhi serial blasts.  This was revealed after the capture of a Sikh terrorist in 1993.

  • The Delhi High Court to hear fresh petition filed by Sushil Ansal seeking injunction to halt the release of Netflix’s new web series ‘Trial By Fire’ which is based on the alleged incident of fire at the Uphaar Cinemas
  • The Delhi High Court to continue hearing on the petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging the bail granted to AAP Communication incharge Vijay Nair and Hyderabad based businessman Abhishek Bonipally in the case relating to the alleged scam relating to Delhi govt’s new Excise policy.

*The Patiala house Court to hear bail plea of Shankar Mishra, accused of peeing on a woman during a flight. He is presently in Judicial custody. He was arrested from Banglore after police obtained Non Bailable Warrants against him.

*The Karkarduma Court to hear bail plea of Tahir Hussain, an accused in the larger conspiracy of Delhi riots. He has sought a bail on medical grounds.
