Jharkhand Court Sentences 3 to Life Term for Murdering Woman Over Dowry

A court in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district has sentenced three members of a family to life imprisonment for the murder of a woman over dowry.

According to the prosecution, the victim woman was set on fire on April 16, 2021, after her parents failed to give the dowry as demanded by her in-laws.

The Accused Individuals

The court convicted Angad Kumar, husband of Basanti, along with his father Kunjil Sao and brother Nirmal Sao, under various sections of the IPC, including 498A (husband or relative of husband subjecting a woman to cruelty).

Basanti’s in-laws had demanded Rs 1 lakh in cash and a two-wheeler, threatening to kill her if their demand wasn’t met. The victim, who married Angad in 2016, had two children with him.
