Delhi’s Saket court on Thursday listed November 7 for the hearing of arguments on the quantum of sentence against five individuals who were found guilty in the murder case of television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan.
Soumya Vishwanathan, who was working with a prominent English news channel, was fatally shot on September 30, 2008, while she was returning home from work on Nelson Mandela Marg in south Delhi. The police had asserted that the motive behind the crime was robbery.
During the proceedings, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Ravindra Kumar Pandey observed that certain documents, including the pre-sentencing report (PSR) prepared by the probationary officer and the affidavits submitted by the five convicts, had not been filed. Consequently, the judge directed the preparation and submission of these reports and affidavits, scheduling the next proceedings for November 7.
On October 18, the court had pronounced the five convicts, namely Ravindra Kumar Pandey, Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Malik, and Ajay Kumar, guilty of the crime.
