Karnataka Assembly Polls: Congress Leaders Files FIR Against Amit Shah’s Provocative Remarks

Senior Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala, Dr. Parmeshwar, and DK Shivakumar has recently filed a police complaint in Bengaluru’s High Grounds Police Station against Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah, as well as the organisers of a BJP rally in Karnataka, for making provocative statements, inciting enmity and hatred, and maligning opposition.

The FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, residence, or language), 171 G (false statement in connection with an election), 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes), and 123 (concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war).

In response to Shah’s statement about ‘riots if the Congress comes to power’, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar stated, “Action should be taken in accordance with the law. If it had been done by a common person, he would have been arrested. The Union Home minister cannot predict communal violence if the Congress Party comes to power. He’s the home minister, not the BJP’s star campaigner.”

“I’ve had over 20 cases filed against me for nothing. Already, the Indian National Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission. We came here after filing the complaint there,” he added.

Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala confirmed the move by stating “We have come to the High Grounds PS with an important issue. We have filed a formal complaint against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.”

“DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah had also called for a ban on PFI, but CM Basavaraj Bommai did not take any action. Since the BJP is losing this election, dipping below 40 seats, they have become desperate. They are now resorting to making false and fabricated statements,” he stated.
