Sunil NS alias Pulsar Suni, the main accused in the 2017 Kerala actress assault case has recently filed a bail plea before the Supreme Court. Malayalam film actor Dileep is also an accused in this case.
On March 6, the Kerala High Court denied his bail application, prompting him to file the current appeal before the Supreme Court. This is Suni’s second round of bail proceedings since his detention as an undertrial over 6 years ago.
Suni emphasised in his plea, filed through advocate Sriram Parakkat, that his pre-trial detention period had exceeded 6 years and that the procedure should not become a punishment.
“The trial is taking unexpected turns due to incidents in which the petitioner has no involvement. The trial has been prolonged in many ways simply because accused no. 5 [Dileep] is a celebrity,” Suni stated in his plea.
In the infamous 2017 case, a notable female actor was kidnapped, driven around in a car, photographed, and sexually assaulted, reportedly at the behest of actor Dileep.
The trial in the case is presently ongoing at the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court.
Suni is the case’s first accused. He reportedly told investigators that prominent Malayalam film industry figures, including Dileep, were not only involved in the crime, but were also the masterminds behind it.
